Base Camp Properties, LLC was founded in 2019 by Mark Appelbaum and Jeremy Edwards. Base Camp and its affiliates own over 1000 apartments in the Minneapolis metropolitan marketplace. Since 2016, Base Camp and its affiliates have acquired or developed over $100 million dollars of real estate. The firm’s main purpose is to develop and acquire multifamily properties in the upper Midwest. Base Camp has a 720-unit pipeline of new developments intended to begin construction in the next 12-36 months.

Mark Appelbaum is a principal and co-founder of Base Camp Properties, LLC, a development firm based in Minneapolis, MN that identifies undervalued and underappreciated sites around Minnesota. Appelbaum focuses on capital formation, project and strategic planning, and aligning the needs of each development with the most appropriate debt and equity options while positioning Base Camp for future growth. Appelbaum spent more than 20 years at Piper Jaffray (now Piper Sandler) as an investment banker where he held various leadership positions, including nearly a decade as a managing director of the housing and real estate group in the public finance department. He served on the operating committee of the public finance department and as a member of the Piper Jaffray firm-wide leadership team. After Piper Jaffray, Mr. Appelbaum founded Makado, a real-estate development and asset management company. Makado developed several senior living communities (independent living, assisted living and memory care) as well as single-family home sites. Makado provides asset management services to over 700 multi-family units throughout Hennepin and Dakota counties in MN. Appelbaum holds a bachelor's degree from Boston University where he graduated magna cum laude, and a masters of international business management with high honors from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird). Appelbaum serves on various communal non-profit boards and is the Minneapolis liaison for an international sister city relationship (Rehovot, Israel).

Jeremy is a principal and co-founder of Base Camp Properties, LLC, a development firm based in Minneapolis, MN that identifies undervalued and underappreciated sites around Minnesota. He and his team work with community stakeholders to create developments that meet the needs of the marketplace while contributing to the existing neighborhood. He primarily focuses on site selection, acquisitions, and the conceptualization of new developments. Edwards co-founded Base Camp in 2019 based on a successful track record at Pocket Properties, LLC, where he remains a founder and principal. Leading Pocket, Edwards was responsible for identifying opportunities, securing investment and financing, and overseeing the design and development of urban-infall developments in Minnesota. Edwards began his career as a Minnesota real estate entrepreneur in 2014 when he co-founded a real estate investment firm, EH Equities. Since then, affiliated entities have acquired, developed and redeveloped numerous commercial, mixed-use and multi-family properties throughout Minnesota. Previously, Edwards was an associate leasing manager at American Dream Meadowlands, a four-billion-dollar mixed-use development in the New York City area. Edwards began his career at Triple Five Worldwide, the parent company to Mall of America. A summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Minnesota, Edwards lives in the Twin Cities area with his wife and daughter.
